Finding the best builder!

The most important thing when it comes to starting a project within your home is to ensure that you find the right builder for you. Now, there are a lot of good builders and companies within the Newcastle area that provide home owners with great basement and loft conversions, and many companies that provide great new builds, property renovations and even landscaping companies. That is why you need to make sure that you find the best company for that service, rather than look for a general builder’s company. Looking for the perfect loft conversion company if you are after a loft conversion is smarter than looking for a general building company. The same is double for something such as a landscaper. Finding the right landscaper who will factor in weather, area and even the natural effects of the location will make the largest difference two years down the line.

One of the common misconceptions regarding building companies nowadays is the ethnicity or original birth place of a builder. Within the last 20 years, there have been more builders and labourers from the European Union and elsewhere throughout the world, and there is a perception that these builders may not be as qualified as other builders. When you look at the city of Newcastle being nearby port cities, there is a reason so many emigrants have come to the city itself. However, Newcastle loft conversion companies often hired these same workers because of the general stereotype being the opposite. I have worked with so many builders and labourers from other countries, and they are some of the hardest working people I have ever set eyes on. While there will always be bad apples to spoil the bunch, the opposite has only ever been truthful to me.

It is important to only look for masters of the service that you need, and you should always consider looking by the service rather than by the trade. Most websites will also have galleries, but even if they do not, that doesn’t mean they don’t provide a good service. So, contacting the companies and having some interaction would always help. The two important things are to make sure that the companies are passionate and enthusiastic about your project before anyone else.

Thank you for reading todays post, and make sure to check out some of the future and previous posts we have made! Have a nice day!

Landscaping in Newcastle

One of the often-overlooked building services that any builder can provide a home owner or commercial property are landscaping services of all kinds. This doesn’t just mean gardens, but also front lawns of commercial and residential properties. You will often see this in some cities such as Newcastle, London and Liverpool but larger commercial properties especially have centre pieces or mini front lawns at the front doors of the building itself. They usually install a square shaped mini garden that is filled with grass and flowers, or something more elaborate such as a mini statue that is surrounded by flora and fauna. There are a few creative or innovative ideas that you can come up with when it comes to a commercial property, but gardens are usually the project that allows any landscaper to flex their creative juices and bring visions to life.

My favourite landscaping projects usually include larger gardens that do not just have flora and fauna, but also wish to be creative with the masonry too. Landscaping isn’t a service that is just gardening as many believe. Landscaping is the combination of gardening and stone working to create a landscape of the area itself. For those who are in love with creating their own landscape on the front or back of their home, landscaping is an art that is truly appreciated. Unfortunately, the more creative landscaping projects require a large investment both in time and money that it would cost to create and build. The variety of options that are open for any landscaping project is also as difficult to compare. There are so many different fixtures and additions that are available to home owners that it can become difficult to create your own vision.

My favourite types of landscaping projects are ones that revolve around some type of pond. Whether it is a toad pond or a coy pond, the pond itself is the selling point of the landscaping project itself. Masonry and stonework around the pond itself also enhances not only the pond, but the entire landscape itself. There are some elegant looking tones, and if you can create a stylish walk up or surrounding of the pond itself, it can really enhance the overall look of the project itself. You should also consider the difference that fresh and healthy grass can make on a landscape both for the features and additions within the landscape itself, but also upon the natural lighting differences. The greener the grass, the nicer any landscape would look. That is why any other feature is naturally enhanced around the healthiest of grass.

Finally, the right type of flower is just as important. Depending on the design of your landscape itself, it is important that the flowers colour not only matches the landscape or features within the landscape, but the length of the plant itself is also a key indicator for the landscape. If you are looking for a earthlier landscape for example, then natural vines handing down rather than climbing up can make the largest difference on the overall atmosphere. Little things like this need to be considered when you want to create the perfect landscape, despite the design of the landscape itself.

Large 3-storey home renovation!

As a builder in Newcastle, I have had the pleasure of working on many residential properties within the area for multiple different jobs. One of the most common projects that I have completed at residential properties within the Newcastle area is residential property renovations. Renovations are becoming increasingly common today because it is cheaper to change your exterior and interior of your home without having to purchase a new one. Many people get tired of the same surroundings, especially if they have lived in their home after more than 10 years. It is increasingly common for people to decide that they want to renovate or even remodel their entire home because either they want something fresh, or they want to change the use of some of their rooms.

There are a few areas on the outside of Newcastle, especially the suburban areas where many of the families are located that is common to see a renovation or remodelling. One of my favourite home renovations that I have completed within the last 5 years is the renovation of a 3-storey home. A 3-storey home isn’t uncommon in Newcastle, but the actual size of the home was larger than the common home you would see outside of the city. The home itself was very long and wide, making the home about double the size of an average 3-storey home. This made the renovation quite interesting for the size of the project, but also the creativity and innovation that the home owner wanted with the renovation itself. They wanted to change the structure of the building along with the exterior and interior decorations.

The main selling point of the renovation was the amount of change in colour and style of the interior itself. The interior was originally homely and uncreative, and the home owner was looking for the opposite in their home. They wanted to turn their relatively uncreative and unappealing home into one of the most stylish, elegant and colourful rooms within the entire city. That is why the structure within the interior was changed. The two main structural edits were the giant, in wall fish tank and the pillars that the home owner wanted.

The fish tank itself was very elegant, although some may call it tacky. The fish tank was a total of 7 meters tall, while also being quite wide. The tank was installed within a standalone wall that we built within the home owners main bedroom. The wall was built in the middle of the room, with a cut off on the half way mark to allow access to each side of the room without any effort or doors, and the ability to feed the fish without difficulty.

The pillars were also a small edit. We built them within the entrance of the home because the home owner wanted to make the homes entrance look grand. We built two within the home made of concrete and painted matte white, while repeating the same process but at the entrance of the home, side by side of the front door. It was a grand edit, but it also fit in to the home without looking cliché, cheesy or tacky.

I hope you enjoyed today’s blog post. If you haven’t yet, read some of the past posts and some of the posts we will be submitting into the side within the next few weeks!

The buildings of Newcastle

I love building around the city of Newcastle. It is the city that I was born in, the city that I grew up in and it is the city that I plan on living the rest of my life in. I have experienced and done so many things within the Newcastle area, and I hope that I manage to spend the rest of my life within the city. I also want my kids to spend their lives here, or at the very least spend their childhoods here and get the most that they can out of it. There aren’t many places that are better for kids to spend their childhood at, since everyone in the area knows everyone else’s name, and the area itself is safe compared to other cities and villages within the United Kingdom. It’s one of the closest things to my heart, and I hope that they can grow up to appreciate it like I do.

I have spent so much of my life within the Newcastle area, but I have also spent so much of my career within the area too. Whenever I am in the city or many of the suburban and residential areas within or outside of the city, I can see many of the buildings and properties that I was able to work on throughout the years. Some of the buildings I have even been the foreman of, and there are a small few buildings that I oversaw the construction itself. It is weird to still have a sort of emotional attachment to these projects so many years after I had finished constructing them, but once you can see the effort of your labour in such a grand way, it is difficult to let go of. It is difficult to look past some of these buildings and not see the hard work and the time you put into making sure that they stood firm and safe. The passion it takes to start and follow through with a project with the same concentration and conviction is very rare, and it takes builders who are truly inspired and find their job both a passion and a hobby to complete.

I have been very fortunate to have so many buildings within the Newcastle area to complete. For many sections of time throughout the years, many builders and foremen have been out of work and haven’t been able to find a job or a project that they could work on. Being a builder with a constant stream of work and projects to take part in is very rare these days because of the amount of companies that are within the area, the number of builders that have flocked towards the city itself and the monopoly that some companies have within the city means that it is a case of loyalty. Building a relationship with a company or the managers within the company as a builder is one of the only ways to ensure that you can still have a job, unless you are so talented and efficient at what you do that a company can’t help but hire you whenever you are free for work.

I’m sorry some may not find this interesting, but these are small thoughts that I have every so often that is important for any builder within the United Kingdom and Newcastle itself. I hope you have enjoyed todays blog post, and make sure you read both yesterdays blog post and some of the posts within the future.

About a Newcastle Builder!

Here at Mucky Duck, I wanted to create a blog about my two biggest passions in life: Newcastle FC and building! I’m a massive Newcastle fan and I have been before the creation of the Premier League. I have been following for so many years now that all the ups and downs that I have faced as a fan feel that more special this year. With Rafa in charge, it finally feels like the days of Shearer again. I feel like Newcastle FC is one of the greatest clubs in the world and we have been throughout history. We managed to keep a world class striker and one of England’s greatest ever players even though he deserved better.

I’m also a builder in Newcastle and I have been doing this since 1995. I have spent almost two and a half decades as a builder in the Newcastle area, and I feel I have become one of the best within the North. I didn’t want to just talk about Newcastle in this blog because there are so many other blogs and websites that focus on the team itself. I also know that many of the builders that I work with are Newcastle fans (or sadly Sunderland fans) so it’s nice to have a place where I can share my love and passion for both. It also means that I have a blog that I know many who share the exact same interests will read and hopefully share some of their thoughts and feelings, especially on match day.

I won’t have a specific idea of what I want to post about day to day because I have so many different thoughts. Some days I may just want to rant about how bad Newcastle are playing and how I really miss the golden years of Bowyer fighting other team mates or Shearer banging in goals daily, or I might just decide to talk about some of the buildings that I have built or loft conversions that I have managed to complete. I’m planning to talk about anything and everything that comes into my head so although I won’t have a structured or planned blog, but I hope that those who have the same passions and hobbies enjoy reading this blog regardless.

I have been very fortunate in my life to become a successful builder. I never realised how successful I could be as a builder due to the lack of work in Newcastle multiple times throughout the years. One of the worst times that the industry has ever experienced was during the financial crash of 2007. I never saw it coming personally, and for two to three years all construction projects had halted. All construction companies also began seeing fewer and fewer jobs come in on a yearly basis and it caused a horrible effect on most companies within the area. Luckily, we have passed that situation now and the area has become more affluent than ever.

Anyway, I hope you have enjoyed todays ramble. Tomorrow I will talk about some of the building projects that I have taken part in since I want to set a tone early rather than simply talking about football, or as my American friends call it, Soccer. Please make sure you stay in touch and read some of the blog posts in the future!
